Local vet raises funding for All Animals Matter

NORWICH — In mid-November of this year an open house pulling double duty was held to benefit a local nonprofit that has reached out to hundreds in need.
Compassionate Care Veterinary of Norwich under the direction and ownership Dr. Stevi Culverwell organized the open house to recognize those who answer the call of kindness when it comes to the lesser than fortunate animal population of Chenango County.
While most of the prizes were donated by Dr. Culverwell and employees – and friends – of Compassionate Care Veterinary, visitors who were invited were also encouraged to bring along pet food or related item which would be donated.
This year, Culverwell chose All Animals Matter, Inc. to benefit from this event by proceeds from the main raffle and chinese auction to be donated to All Animals Matter, Inc. (AAM) — headquartered in Oxford.
One of the main prizes of the even was something near and dear to the hear of All Animals Matter — a free spay/neuter for a pet.
“I'm truly grateful that Dr. Culverwell chose our organization receive proceeds from this open house,” said All Animals Matter, Inc. Founder President Diane Troxell.
According to Troxell, Compassionate Care is the veterinarian of choice for AAM and its clients. From it's inception, in 2009, AAM has used Compassionate Care for most of its needs, including spay/neuter and medical emergencies.
“We help the working poor,” said Troxell. “Pet owners that work and sometimes have multiple jobs but who desire to be responsible pet owners are the number one priority for us. Often, these people cannot afford the experience of the procedures – especially the emergency care funding, of which we are the only source in the county.”
According to Troxell, in 2013 All Animals Matter spayed 93 female cats and 45 dogs; along with 63 male cats 28 male dogs. In addition to those procedures, 50 veterinarian medical emergencies were funded for pet owners in Chenango County.
“The friendly staff at Compassionate Care — now including three veterinarians — is equipped to handle anything we have sent to the practice,” said Troxell. “Dr. Culverwell chose AAM to receive all pet food donations for the month of October, we are inundated with calls from people for pet food — especially with the cold weather ahead of us,” she added.
At the end of the day Culverwell matched funds raised by the open house event and presented Troxell with a check in the amount of $325.
“There is a real need for us to ensure that animals receive necessary emergency care, because there are no other programs or funding out there for them,” Troxell said earlier in 2014. “Often, local veterinarians get burned by customers, so our programming also helps make up for some of the loss by making sure that they are paid for their service,” she said.
All Animals Matter, Inc., is a volunteer not-for-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to helping animals, primarily in Chenango County.
