SOUTH OTSELIC – A strong defensive performance in the first half allowed Otselic Valley to open a 17-point halftime lead in Tuesday’s opening win over visiting Stockbridge Valley.
The Vikes allowed just eight first-half points to create a 25-8 lead.
“I think both teams settled in better (offensively) in the second half,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “I wish we could have defended as well as we did in the first half.”
Matt Neal scored 17 points to lead OV, Jordan Baerga had 15, and Jason Olin scored 13 points to go with six steals, and four assists. “Our kids did a good job of passing and looking for each other tonight,” Loomis said.
OV hosts McGraw Friday.

Lilly Berg had 17 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Lexi Elderkin scored 12 points in her first varsity start. “It was the kind of start to the season we were looking for,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “You hold a team under 30, you have a pretty good chance of winning.

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford stretched out its lead in the fourth quarter to beat Chenango Valley in a non-league season-opener Tuesday night.
Leading by six heading to the fourth, the Bobcats’ Morgan Bullis hit three free throws, Becca Reyes canned a trey, and Taylor Palmatier nailed a pair of spot-up open shots to push the lead to double digits.
“That’s a nice win for us, and defensively I was pleased with my kids,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “In the second half we started scoring, and I think we have a little more offense this year.”
Four B-G players scored in double figures with Bullis and Palmatier each scoring an even dozen, Megan Palmatier netted 11, and Reyes scored 10.
The Bobcats are idle until the S-E Tournament Dec. 12-13.
