Saturday celebration of community arts for the holidays
NORWICH – The Artists’ Palette invites locals to celebrate community arts and the beginning of the holiday season at the Community Arts Festival.
The Community Arts Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at The Artists' Palette, located at 17-19 S. Broad St. in Norwich.
Jill Kraft, owner of The Artists' Palette, said she first planned the festival four years ago, and she has been hosting the holiday event annually ever since. Kraft also said the day event includes shopping, live performances, fun for the kids and much more.
"Organizing this event has been a lot of fun," said Kraft. "It’s a wonderful way to shop local and shop for those unique gifts for the holidays.”
The event includes an arts and crafts fair with over a dozen vendors. The participating vendors include Pink Zebra, Do Terra, It Works and many more.
A majority of the vendors will be selling their own handmade goods at the fair. There will be raffle giveaways for shoppers and attendees throughout the day.
Several nonprofit organizations will also be in attendance and provide information about their services to the public. Some of the nonprofits attending include: Norwich Theater Company, Norwich Dance Club, Catholic Charities, Guernsey Memorial Library, Opportunities for Chenango, Back on the Rack and more.
The festival will have live music and dance performances from noon to 3 p.m. The Norwich Theater Company will be singing holiday songs from their most recent musical, “White Christmas.” The Norwich Dance Club will do a number of original choreographed pieces for the festival as well.
According to Kraft, Santa Claus will “arrive in style” at 3 p.m. and be there with his elf until 4 p.m. Santa and his elf will share free milk and cookies with kids of all ages.
The kids can also make ornaments at the festival with a donation made by Golden Artist Colors.
“This is a community event focusing not only on sales but an opportunity for the community at large to enjoy the arts, as well as learn more about services that are offered year-round,” said Kraft.
Kraft said she wanted to thank the sponsors for the event including Norwich Theater Company, Golden Artist Colors, Walmart and Alvogen (Norwich Pharmaceuticals).
