Village of New Berlin gearing up for holiday season

NEW BERLIN— The Village of New Berlin is gearing up for the holiday season with its “Christmas in New Berlin” event this weekend.
“Christmas in New Berlin” festivities begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Masonic Lodge located on state Highway 8 in New Berlin.
The Masonic Lodge will be ornately decorated indoors for all attendees to get in the spirit of the season. The Arts and Crafts Bazaar with several local vendors will be set up in the lodge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Village of New Berlin Board Trustee Amy Hoxie said it is a nice way for people to do their holiday shopping locally and get in the spirit with the rest of the community.
Those interested in purchasing arts, crafts and homemade goods from local vendors also have the option to get their gifts wrapped to give as presents for Christmas. The Christmas wrapping booth will be set up from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the Arts and Crafts Bazaar.
“I think a lot of credit goes to Linda Foote for all the work she put into the event and how she got the vendors together for the Arts and Crafts Bazaar. We had several people that did a lot to help, but she has done a tremendous amount of work, which I am grateful for,” said Hoxie.
Santa will be arriving at 1 a.m. to take pictures with children until 3 p.m., which is one of Hoxie's favorite parts of the annual event. The photographer will be taking complimentary photos of children with Santa.
“I love seeing their faces when they are with Santa. They light up,” Hoxie said. “I am really looking forward to see them interact with Santa Claus, because he is just awesome.”
Hoxie said another one of her favorite parts of the event is the Kids Crafts Table, which is set up from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“They get to make all these great little things and take them home. They made reindeer last year, so that was fun. I love to help them make their crafts,” she said.
Local resident and musical artist, Leah Gorrell, will be singing Christmas carols from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. as live entertainment for those attending “Christmas in New Berlin.”
The Village Board Trustee said the holiday event has been held for several years but last year was her first year. “We had a lot of good times last year with the kids. If we could have another successful year like last year, I am going to really enjoy it,” Hoxie said.
Hoxie is a lifelong resident of New Berlin and recently joined the Village Board. “One of the reasons I joined the board is give back to the community that helped raise and support me,” Hoxie said. “I want to give back to the kids who are in the community, so they have a good experience being raised here and can enjoy what the community has to offer.”
The lifelong New Berlin resident helped with “Christmas in New Berlin” for similar reasons. I want to make sure they get in the Christmas spirit. It's a chance for families and the community to spend some time together for the holidays,” she said.
