Norwich H.S. Hall of Fame class unveiled
NORWICH – The Norwich High School Sports Hall of Fame committee announces its 2014 induction class.
Entering this year as athletes are Don McGraw (1946), Charlie Townsend (1956), Paul Eaton (1974), and Peter Burton (1994). Sam Elia (1946-1977) will be inducted as a coach/AD; and this year’s team selection is the unbeaten 1919-1920, 1920-1921 basketball teams.
“The Hall of Fame committee enthusiastically endorses this year’s induction class,” said HOF committee co-chair, Scott Ryan. “This induction class represents 90 years of proud Norwich athletics. Personally, I listen in awe as the stories are told that help paint a picture of the level of play and competitive edge that each inductee displayed while wearing purple.”
The venue for this year’s dinner and induction ceremony was moved to Norwich High School. A dinner in the cafeteria will precede the ceremony April 25 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1, 2015, and will be $16 per person. Reservations may be made in advance by calling the Norwich Middle School office at 334-1600, extension 2001. Checks should be made out to the NHSSHOF. Donations may also be made through the Middle School office.
The induction ceremony is slated for 6:45 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. No ticket is required, and the ceremony is free and open to the public.
“Beginning in March (2015), we will run articles on each of these honorees,” Ryan said. “That will allow the community to read along, relive, and applaud the effort and impact of this year’s inductees.”
