Couple accused of stealing $1K worth of baby formula arraigned
NORWICH – A couple accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of baby formula was arraigned in Chenango County Court on Dec. 12 by Judge Frank B. Revoir, Jr.
Casey B. Flanders, 20, Endicott, and Mark G. Grassi, 26, Endicott, were arrested on July 18 at approximately 2 p.m. by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for grand larceny in the fourth degree and conspiracy in the fifth degree.
Two CCSO deputies arrested the couple following a traffic stop on state Highway 12 in the Town of Oxford.
It is alleged Flanders and Grassi stole more than $1,000 worth of baby formula from a business in the Town of Norwich on July 15 and 17.
The couple was initially arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court after their arrest and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), Flanders was transferred to the Broome County Correctional Facility on July 22, because she had warrant out of the Town of Chenango in Broome County for petit larceny. She was released at a later date.
Grassi was released on July 25 after Flanders, his girlfriend, posted the $5,000 property bond issued out of the Town of Norwich Court.
After his release, Grassi was arrested on Aug. 28 in Johnson City for grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. He was arrested by the BCSO.
While Grassi was incarcerated at the Broome County jail, Flanders allegedly tried to visit him using her sister's name and credentials on Oct. 2.
The BCSO said Flanders was trying to conceal her identity because she was wanted by Chenango County for two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony, and two counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. The charges related to the alleged baby formula theft.
Flanders was remanded to the Broome County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail for the class A misdemeanor of criminal impersonation.
BCSO Captain Fred Akshar said Flanders and Grassi are currently being held in the Broome County jail on a “multitude of warrants” out of Broome and Chenango County.
Flanders and Grassi were arraigned for two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony, and two counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor on Dec. 12 in Chenango County Court.
Flanders and Grassi both pleaded not guilty on all counts.
District Attorney Joseph A. McBride requested bail be set at $20,000 for both Flanders and Grassi to “secure future court appearances.”
John D. Cameron, Flanders's and Grassi's public defender, said both his clients are interested in drug treatment court.
Revoir set bail at $10,000 cash or $100,000 bond for both Flanders and Grassi.
Flanders and Grassi are to reappear in Chenango County Court at a later date.
