Brothers allegedly sold stolen guns

NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested two young men for allegedly possessing and selling stolen firearms.
The arrest followed an anonymous phone call from a person who had recently purchased firearms at a low cost in the Town of Ostelic. After speaking with the person who had purchased the inexpensive firearms, it was allegedly found that he had purchased stolen firearms in the Smyrna area from two young men.
The two men were arrested for selling the firearms and being in possession of them. After checking the criminal history of the men, it was found both of the men had a previous felony conviction within the last five years, and they were not allowed to legally possess a firearm.
• Samuel J. Ackermann, 22, Norwich, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
• Thomas L. Ackermann, 24, Otselic, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
The Ackermann brothers were already incarcerated at the Chenango County Correctional Facility for theft related crimes. Both men were arrested for possessing the stolen firearms at the county jail. They were arraigned in the Town of Otselic Court and remanded back to the county jail in lieu of cash bail.
