Boil water alert issued for South Otselic hamlet

SOUTH OTSELIC – According to the Chenango County Emergency Management Office, The Chenango County Health has issued a boil water advisory for all residents within the hamlet of South Otselic.
According to authorities, all residents using the municipal water system potable water should bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before consumption.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 13, a pump failure created a pressure drop in the system and created a potential for bacteria infiltration.
“About 400 – 500 residents utilize the South Otselic water system, we are initiating the alert as a precautionary measure to keep everyone safe and healthy,” said Matthew Beckwith, County Fire Coordinator.
Beckwith indicated that technicians and town officials are currently working to get the problem resolved and that the alert is in effect until further notice.
