Owego 94, Norwich 71
NORWICH – Although victory was out of reach, Norwich closed its home meet with Owego in strong fashion Tuesday night at Norwich High School.
The Tornado’s 400 freestyle relay lopped off four seconds from its best time this season, one of five season-best performances. “Right now, our main goal is to get decent times to seed us well at sectionals, and go from there,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher.
Connor Supensky, Dan Zieno, Jon Manwarren, and Killian Benedict made up the winning final relay. Two events earlier, Benedict won the 100 backstroke in a season-low 58.81, and Manwarren took the 500 freestyle in a season-best 5:28.17.
Bruce Winter ((breaststroke) and Zieno (50 free) had Norwich’s other two victories against a deep Owego team that brought 33 swimmers to the NHS deck.
Norwich hosts Holland Patent Thursday.
