Man arrested for felony assault of 9-month-old baby

SHERBURNE – New York State Police arrested a Sherburne man on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a nine-month-old male infant.
Brandon D. Thomas, 26, was charged with the class D felony of assault in the second degree and the class A misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to authorities, the arrest followed a report of child abuse from Onondaga County Child Protective Services earlier this month.
Upon further investigation, the NYSP learned that a baby boy from Sherburne had been taken to the Upstate Bone & Joint Center in Syracuse by his mother and her live-in boyfriend, Thomas. The hospital reported the visit to the local CPS, because the infant had a suspicious fractured left femur and suspicious fractured left radial bone.
NYSP discovered the infant's leg and arm had been broken while he was allegedly under the care of Thomas last month.
Thomas was arraigned in the Village of Sherburne Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
Although the mother has not been charged with a crime, the 9-month-old boy has been placed in the custody of another family member at this time.
