BAINBRIDGE – Since an early-season division loss to Delhi, Bainbridge-Guilford is just two games from running the table in Midstate Athletic Conference play.
The Bobcats won their 10th straight game Thursday night getting a double-double from freshman Megan Palmatier. The young forward was tough around the basket drawing numerous fouls on her way to a 17-point, 10-rebound night against the Trojans.
“She worked really hard on her post game on the JV last year, and she’s been a strong player for us,” said B-G coach Bob Conway of Palmatier. “She’ll hold her ground.”
The Trojans, winners of four straight coming in, likely saw their opportunity of winning the MAC go by the wayside, but can still finish among the top two in the league if it wins out. One of Greene’s remaining league games is against first-place Delhi. “We’re not conceding anything,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton.
B-G led by 11 at halftime, and quickly pushed the lead to 15 points early in the third. Palmatier drained two free throws after getting fouled on an offensive rebound, and Marissa Thornton had a steal and a layup to make it 28-13.
Greene battled back to an 11-point deficit by the end of the third. Katie Carey hit a step-back three ball for the Trojans, and Alyssa Sands pumped in a pull-up 12-footer with 45 seconds left in the quarter.
Carey, the Trojans’ leading scorer coming in, was held to a season-low six points. Carey missed the last 12 minutes of the first half with foul trouble, and never really got into an offensive flow.
“Everyone (on our team) knew their assignment was to keep Carey from scoring the basketball,” Conway said.
Greene was as close as 32-23 early in the fourth. A quick 8-1 B-G run ended any comeback attempt for the visiting club. Megan Ferrara had two buckets on assists from Palmatier and Morgan Bullis, and in between those two hoops, Bullis scored off a dish from Taylor Palmatier.
Bullis wound up with 13 points in the victory, and Taylor Palmatier handed out four assists.
Audrey Platta led the Trojans with 14 points.
