Unadilla Valley 72, Bainbridge-Guilford 60
NEW BERLIN – A furious fourth quarter allowed Unadilla Valley to avert an upset bid from Bainbridge-Guilford in Wednesday night’s home contest.
UV’s Ethan Grey and Ryan Postma each scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and the duo also hit four free throws apiece down the stretch to cinch up the game.
B-G led after each of the first three quarters, and took a six-point lead into the last eight minutes. Senior Zach Smith spearheaded the B-G attack scoring a career-high 28 points before fouling out with three minutes to play. Smith did most of his scoring in the first half netting 19 points. “Smith shot it very well, and did a good job of taking it to the basket,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We focused on him and Ryan Jones in the second half, and we were able to slow them down.”
Grey led UV with 22 points and Postma scored 18 in the victory. Hank deGlee tickled twine for 11 more.
Jones added 14 in the B-G loss. “It was a heck of an effort on our part, we just couldn’t finish it off,” said B-G coach Greg Warren.
UV plays at Delhi Friday.

After Kevin Davis scored the initial basket of the second half for Oxford, Sidney embarked on a 13-2 run led by three buckets from Tom Hoskins and a three ball from Zak Green.
Oxford, for its part, took care of the ball and had clean looks at the basket, but struggled from the field most of the evening hitting 31 percent of its shots for the game. That included an 0-for-11 effort from behind the three-point line.
“Sidney is a pretty good shooting team, and we just didn’t make shots tonight,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis, whose club fell to 6-10 overall.

Sherburne-Earlville 55, Sauquoit Valley 39
SAUQUOIT – Suffocating defense in the first half led Sherburne-Earlville to its 12th consecutive win, Wednesday night at Sauquoit Valley.
Sauquoit Valley’s own intentions on defense were to slow S-E’s Ben Khoury and Gavin Giroux. The host club accomplished that, but failed to account for sophomore Matt Hull.
Hull scored 20 points, one shy of his season high, and put 14 points on the board in the first half to personally outscore SV by one point. “Any time you hold a team to 13 points in the first half, you have a good chance of winning the game,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “I was very happy with the defense and the intensity of our ball pressure. We made it difficult for them to run anything on offense.”
Khoury did come in with 10 points to aid in the scoring. The Marauders (14-2) are at Clinton tonight.
