Two families devastated by Saturday morning fires

NEW BERLIN – Emergency crews were called to two separate residential fires in the Town of New Berlin during the early morning hours on Saturday, both resulting in a total loss.
New Berlin Fire responded to a working house fire shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday at 1377 Turnpike Road. Mutual aid was provided by the North Norwich, Earlville, West Edmeston, Pittsfield, South New Berlin, and Sherburne fire departments. Crews were able to knock out the flames with no injuries reported. Assistance to the family was provided by the American Red Cross.
Another fire at a trailer located on County Road 34 in South New Berlin was reported shortly after. South New Berlin responded with help from Norwich, Oxford, and Mount Upton. Again, assistance was provided by the American Red Cross.
Online fundraising accounts have been established for the Gorrell family and the Fink family – the two families left homeless by Saturday morning’s fires – on the website GoFundMe.com.
