Sabers rally past Purple Tornado

Susquehanna Valley 65, Norwich 55
NORWICH – Susquehanna Valley held Norwich scoreless for over four minutes in the fourth quarter, and in that time scored 15 straight points to rally past the Purple Tornado Wednesday night.
Norwich led by 13 after one half, but quickly saw that advantage melt away. SV turned Norwich over three times within a 20-second stretch of the third quarter, and turned all three NHS miscues into buckets.
Caitlyn Knapp had eight points in the third for the Sabers as they trimmed the margin to 48-43.
After a driving layup by Hannah Haskell cut Norwich's lead to 49-48 with 5:31 remaining in the game, Norwich's Caitlyn Brown answered with a three in the right corner at the 4:46 mark that caromed off the backboard before falling through twine.
Norwich didn't score again until the final 30 seconds when a Shelby Benjamin free throw halted SV's 15-point uprising.
"We just struggled with their pressure," said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. "Then we started doing better against their press, and the game got into a pace that didn't benefit us, and benefited their game."
Norwich jumped out to a 34-21 halftime advantage behind 10 points from Meghan Komendarek and nine from Savannah Williams. Williams led Norwich with 14 points before fouling out with 1:36 to play, and Komendarek posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Norwich's JV team improved to 13-1 defeating SV, 45-41. Caroline Stewart led Norwich with 14 points.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley enters postseason play on a roll winning for the seventh time in eight games, Wednesday night against visiting Hancock.
Breanna Christian pumped in five threes and scored 20 points, and Sierra Badger added a season-high 18 points.
Badger scored 12 in the second half, and Christian had three threes in the third quarter as Hancock hung within two points entering the fourth. Hannah Lazarus added six points in the fourth for the Storm (12-7) winding up with 10.
"It was another great team win, and we're playing well heading into sectionals," said UV coach Brandi Whitbeck.

OTEGO – A strong second half was not enough for Greene, who fell for the fourth straight game Wednesday night at Unatego.
The Trojans were just 3-for-18 from the field in the first half to trail 23-12. "We were tentative and passed up several good looks at the basket, and had three 30-second violations," said Greene coach Dave Gorton. "In the second half Katie (Carey) stepped up big, and so did Alyssa (Sands)."
Cassidy Newman poured in 25 points to lead Unatego.
Carey had a team-high 19 points for Greene, who host Windsor tonight at 6 p.m.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU picked up its third win of the season controlling the fourth period in Wednesday's non-league win over visiting B-G.
Nate Fuller had eight points in the fourth quarter with two putbacks off misses and a key steal off a missed free throw that put G-MU in front 36-30. Nate O'Hara also hit back-to-back threes in the fourth, one to give his club the lead, and the second to push the advantage to four points. Hunter Lockwood added a key bucket and two free throws to seal the victory.
"Our defense was strong tonight, and the kids did a nice job of executing at key points in the game," said G-MU coach Greg Bonczkowski.
O'Hara finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Fuller scored a season-high 12 to go with 10 boards.
Ryan Jones lead B-G with 16 points.
G-MU plays at Cincinnatus today.
