Libous seeks input for state’s $5 billion legal settlement

CHENANGO COUNTY – Senator Tom Libous (R-52nd Senate District) is seeking feedback from residents concerning the use of New York’s $5 billion from legal settlements.
With the budget process underway, Libous is collecting input through his “pocketbook survey” which has been mailed to many households throughout his district.
Libous said there have already been suggestions that include using the money for roads and bridges, paying down the state debt, cutting taxes or investing in economic development.
“The governor’s roads and bridge projects include $1.3 billion to the thruway to freeze tolls for a year and help finance construction on the Tappan Zee Bridge, $50 million for a Southern Tier and Hudson Valley farm initiative along with funding for hospitals and rural broadband projects,” said Libous.
The governor’s plan also includes seven upstate regions competing for three $500 million economic development awards.
“I’d like to know what (people) think of the governor’s proposal,” said Libous.
In addition to residential mailings, Libous’ survey can be found online at www.TomLibous.com.
