County officials warn of nationwide fire extinguisher recall

CHENANGO COUNTY – In a release dated Feb. 20, 2015, Chenango County Director of Environmental Health and Code Enforcement Isaiah Sutton relayed that the Kidde Fire Rrotection Corporation is recalling roughly five million disposable fire extinguishers.

A relatively high potential for injury exists as associated models may not discharge properly the company said, last week.

To date, Kiddie has received 11 reports that the fire extinguishers failed to discharge as expected, while injuries have been reported.

Consumers are advised to contact Kidde immediately for a replacement of the recalled fire extinguishers are red, white or silver and are either ABC or BC rated – ratings are located to the right of the nameplate.

The recall includes approximately 4.6 million fire extinguishers in the U.S. There are 31 models of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers with Zytel black plastic valves included in the recall.
