SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville advanced to the Section III Class B semifinals Sunday afternoon at Onondaga Community College outlasting Canastota Tuesday night.
Ben Khoury hit three free throws with just over a minute to play, and the Marauders made six total free throws down the stretch to pull away.
“I told the kids before the game that at this point in the season, it’s survive and advance,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “The fourth quarter, we survived. We knew this game would be tough because we know each other so well, and they (Canastota) play really hard.”
The Marauders dominated the middle two periods, and after a 22-8 third quarter, stretched their lead to 20 points. Khoury had seven of his 14 points in the third, and Derek Capria hit both of his three-pointers. Capria added 13 points in the win, while Gavin Giroux and Matt Hull netted nine apiece.

NORWICH – Norwich constructed a 22-point lead in the second half, and then withstood Whitney Point’s hard charge in the fourth quarter to advance in the Section IV Class B playoffs.
The Eagles’ Brittney Randall hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Bri Sturdevant trey with 2:21 left drew her team within 45-41. Sturdevant’s bucket was part a 12-0 Whitney Point run.
On the next possession, Norwich’s Carin Kuhn drove into the lane, and dished to Kassidy Seary at the foul line, who nailed a 15-footer to put Norwich back up by six. A Savannah Williams layup and two free throws by Seary seemed to have Norwich in control. Missed free throws late, however, kept Whitney Point in the hunt.
Randall had a look at a tying three to end the game that hit the front of the rim. “We just got on the wrong side of the momentum, and had a difficult time turning it back in our favor,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “It seemed like every point, when (Whitney Point) got the momentum going, was the hardest thing in the world to come by.”
Norwich turned Whitney Point over 27 times through the first three quarters. Kuhn hit a corner three early in the third, and single free throws by Kuhn and Makenzie Maynard gave Norwich its biggest lead, 35-13, with less than five minutes left in the third.
Seary, starting for injured Meghan Komendarek, had her best game as a varsity player scoring 14 points to go with 15 rebounds. Maynard added 11 for Norwich (15-4) in the victory.

ELMIRA – Hannah Watts led Elmira Notre Dame’s strong third quarter as the Crusaders avoided a first-round upset to Unadilla Valley Tuesday.
The Storm overcame a three-point first quarter output erasing an eight-point deficit to take a one-point lead into halftime. Shannon McIntyre hit two threes in the quarter and scored all nine of her points giving UV a 20-19 lead.
Watts had six in the third quarter and Kaylyn Curran hit two buckets allowing the host club to push its lead back to seven. “We didn’t shoot it well from the foul line or from the field (26 percent) tonight, and you’re not going to win a lot of games like that,” said UV coach Brandi Whitbeck.
Breanna Christian was UV’s primary offensive weapon in the second half scoring 10 of her team-high 15 points. Hannah Lazarus added nine points for the Storm, who finish the season with a 12-8 record.

OTEGO – Unatego’s Sam Pikaard hit a three-pointer, her third of the game, to quell a Greene fourth-quarter rally in Tuesday’s Section IV Class C playoff game.
The Trojans trimmed a 33-18 deficit to 33-30. Pickaard responded with a three-pointer to up the lead back to six. Greene had the margin back to 36-33 with a chance to cut into the lead. After a missed Trojans free throw, a follow-up after an offensive rebound was missed. Unatego grabbed the ensuing rebound, and hit two free throws late to ice the win.
“We shot it poorly all night long, but we did a great job coming back,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We had shots in good positions, they just didn’t go in tonight.”
Freshman Alyssa Sands had 10 points for Greene (11-9), and Katie Carey added nine points.
