The First Baptist Church of Bainbridge announces March events; considers hosting vacation bible school
BAINBRIDGE – As part of the Lenten season, The First Baptist Church of Bainbridge will be hosting a movie night at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday March 21.
The movie – A Child Called Jesus – will follow a small soup and sandwich meal. This movie portrays Jesus as a young boy who has visions of how his adult life unfolds. The film received favorable reviews from the Vatican and has won an international Emmy Award. Drinks and popcorn will be provided at the showing. People planning to attend the film are asked to please call the church office so they can estimate the amount of food needed.
In worship over the next few weeks, the church will be continuing to follow Jesus’ passion during the last week of his life on earth. There will be a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service at 7 p.m on March 26 with Communion. This service will be followed by a prayer vigil. Services for Good Friday and Easter Sunrise are being planned with the Presbyterians.
The Bainbridge Council of Churches has also asked the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge to look into the possibility of offering a Vacation Bible School this summer. The church is seeking input from other area churches, and the community, about how and when this might happen. Bonnie Harrington and Pastor Wendy will be reviewing curriculum through Arrowhead Parable Christian Store in Johnson City. Anyone interested in helping with this event may phone Pastor Wendy or leave a message at the church office.
As a fundraiser for the Saturday morning Soup Kitchen, First Baptist is also offering 6” x 13” laser engraved breadboards for $20 each. The boards say “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread” and all of the proceeds will go to the Soup Kitchen. They should be here in time for Mother’s Day. For more information or to reserve a board please contact Pastor Wendy at the phone number below.
