Sheriff's Office busts 'one pot' meth lab
AFTON – The Chenango County Sheriff's Office busted a "one pot" meth lab in Afton and arrested the man who was allegedly manufacturing meth outside of his home.
51-year-old Donald P. Scott of Afton was arrested Monday for allegedly turning his home into a meth lab and cooking the narcotic drug.
Sheriff's Office deputies said the arrest followed an investigation into information the agency received regarding a "one pot" methamphetamine lab.
On March 16 at approximately 6:30 p.m., CCSO deputies arrived at Scott's residence located at 9 Blowers Hill Rd. in Afton. Deputies said laboratory equipment and several precursors, reagents and solvents used in the cooking process were found inside the residence.
The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) responded to the scene and assisted the Sheriff's Office in the investigation. CCSERT helped with the safe collection of evidence and the destruction of hazardous material.
Scott was charged with the class D felony of unlawful manufacturing methamphetamine in the third degree. He was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. Scott is to reappear in court at a later date.
"[Scott] is another long-term drug user, drug seller and obviously drug manufacturer we have put out of business," said Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting. "We are doing everything we can to limit the drug trade in Chenango County."
