Oneonta offense erupts in the late innings

Baseball

Oneonta 19, Norwich 7
NORWICH – Oneonta flipped the momentum of the game in a hurry scoring seven runs in the fifth and nine more in the seventh to win in lopsided fashion Wednesday.
“We were playing really well up to the fifth inning, and then the wheels fell off,” said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull.
Oneonta had five stolen bases in the fifth inning alone and 10 stolen bases for the game. Noah Sheehan had four runs scored for the winners, and Connor Tavarone smacked a double driving in two runs.
“They were just super aggressive on the basepaths, and that really killed us,” Turnbull said. “In the seventh inning, they just seemed to get hit after hit.”
Oneonta had 18 hits in the game, but only one was of the extra base variety.
Norwich’s Jake Walsh and Patrick Marks each had two hits and two RBI in the loss.

Greene 9, Walton 4
GREENE – Greene hurler Nick Adams pitched to contact, and his defense backed him up as Greene won for the second time in three outings this week.
Adams struck out just one and relied on steady defense that committed just one error. “Nick really bailed us out, and his (pitching) was textbook on how a pitcher doesn’t have to throw hard as long as he’s throwing strikes,” said Greene interim coach Pete Mansheffer. “He made our defense work, and our defense played well.”
On the other side of ball, Greene went to the running game to generate offense finishing with nine stolen bases. One of those stolen bases was a steal of home by Dylan Barton.
Joe Phillips went 2-for-3 in the win with two runs, and Jordan Harrington had one hit and stole four bases. Dalton Brower chipped in with a key RBI single in the Trojans’ five-run third.

Deposit 5, Bainbridge-Guilford 2
DEPOSIT – A four-run first inning gave Deposit just enough offensive production in Wednesday’s home victory over Bainbridge-Guilford.
Two passed balls led to two Lumberjacks runs in that opening frame. “I didn’t feel we were really focused in that first inning, but after that, we really settled down and it was a heck of a ballgame,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly.
Brandon Macumber, Trenton Curtis, and Devin Schmidt all had two hits for Deposit in the win.
B-G scored twice in the third as Ryan Jones contributed a sacrifice fly, and Mitchell Mertz drove in another run with a single.
