B-G wins pitchers’ duel with Sidney

B-G 2, Sidney 0
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford sophomore pitcher, Zach Ouimet, authored his best outing as a varsity player tossing a two-hit shutout in Friday's win over visiting Sidney.
Ouimet outdueled the Warriors' number one hurler, Zak Green, striking out seven, walking one, and surrendering three basehits. Ouimet was backed by the Bobcats' error-free defense.
"Zach was just outstanding," said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. "He kept the ball down, he pitched away, and he hit the corners. He gave up just three hits to a quality team, and our defense was absolutely solid."
B-G's offense was also opportunistic scoring single runs in the third and sixth innings. Austin Carr reached on an infield error in the third, moved to second on Cameron Luca's single, advanced to third on Kyle Hanvey's flyout, and came home on a double steal.
Luca attempted to steal second with two outs, and on the throw down to second, Carr broke for home. The throw back to the plate was slightly off line allowing Carr to score.
Three innings later, Hanvey started the inning with a single. Trevor Halaquist laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, and the speedy Hanvey advanced all the way to third. After an intentional walk to Ouimet, Ryan Jones hit a groundball back to Green.
Green threw to second to start a double play, but Jones beat the throw to first, and Hanvey came in to score on the play.

NORWICH – After getting swept in a doubleheader by Chenango Forks Friday, Norwich broke into the win column for the first time this season beating Chenango Valley Saturday afternoon.
Down by a run, Norwich scored four runs in the third to grab the lead for good. Chris Trevisani had an RBI groundout, Pat Marks scored the go-ahead run on a Valley error, and Everett Thompson stroked a clutch two-run double.
Cody Brady pitched a complete-game victory for Norwich allowing four hits, and shortstop Jake Walsh was flawless in the field making or assisting on eight putouts, while also turning a timely double play in the seventh inning to quell a Warriors rally.
"It was kind of reminiscent of last year where we scored a few runs early, then played good defense the rest of the way," said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. "They (Chenango Valley) made some errors, and we capitalized."
Friday, Chenango Forks pitched back-to-back shutouts beginning with Michael Bubniak's one-hitter, and followed by Jake Hunink's five-hitter in the nightcap.
Bubniak struck out 12 and helped his own cause at the plate with two hits. "Bubniak was probably the best we've seen this year at keeping our hitters off balance," Turnbull said. "He put on a pitching clinic."
Norwich committed most of its five errors in an 8-0 defeat to the Blue Devils in the fourth and fifth innings. Chad Raychel and Bubniak had two hits in the victory.

Kassidy Seary was 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead Norwich, Bridget Murphy singled and scored two runs, and Shannon Moore reached base safely four times scoring two runs.
Elmira combined 13 hits with five Norwich errors to score in all but one inning. Abbie Topping led Elmira with four hits - one a home run - driving in four runs.
