Norwich Merchants roll out ‘Merchant Money’
NORWICH – The Norwich Merchants Association is taking a new approach to encourage people to shop local.
On May 1, the Merchants Association will start rolling out “Merchant Money,” gift certificates that are redeemable only at participating businesses in the Norwich area. The goal, explained NMA Vice President Linda McNeil, is to promote shopping local while giving consumers more options to find that perfect gift.
“In past years, I have had several people who have come to me and ask if we have gift certificates for people, but they don’t know where they shop,” McNeil said.
Merchant Money solves that problem, she added. Certificates will be available for purchase at McLaughlin’s Department Store, 27 S. Broad St.
From May 1 through May 10, NMA is sponsoring a contest in which consumers need only shop at participating businesses in the Norwich area to be entered into a drawing for $100 in Merchant Money. The winner will be announced May 12. Keep an eye out for ads in The Evening Sun and Pennysaver for a complete list of participating businesses.
“In 2015, we want people to keep looking for more opportunities to win Merchant Money,” McNeil said. “We will be doing different things throughout the year.”
