Windsor’s Wrighter shuts down Norwich

Windsor 6, Norwich 1
NORWICH – Windsor's Nate Wrighter beat Norwich with his bat earlier in the week, then took his turn on the mound to beat the Tornado with his arm in Friday's road victory.
Wrighter fanned 10 NHS batters in six innings of work to get the victory. Wrighter had eight of those strikeouts through the first three innings.
The Black Knights broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the fourth. After a one-out single and a Norwich error, Jonah Bennett and Wrighter contributed RBI singles.
Wrighter, Jake Conroy, Noah Zakrajsek, and Josh McCafferty all had two hits in the win.
Norwich's Kevin Porack had two hits and one run scored, and Jake Walsh picked up an RBI drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Norwich (1-12) plays at Chenango Valley Tuesday.

Otselic Valley 11, DeRuyter 9
DERUYTER – Otselic Valley rallied from an 8-1 deficit after four innings to defeat DeRuyter Friday for its first win of the season.
Peter Kalin, Garrett Forrest, Jonah VanVoorhis, and Matthew Neal all had hits in a two-run seventh inning to break a 9-9 tie. The Vikings jumped back into the game with back-to-back four-run frames in the fifth and sixth.
"We never gave up and we stormed back," said OV coach Jacob Preston. "I'm proud of these boys."
Connor Smith pitched five innings – the first three and the final two – giving up no earned runs for the victory.
Titus Reichard, VanVoorhis, and Matt Neal all had two RBI in the win. Neal, VanVoorhis, and Smith finished with two hits as well.

DELHI – Behind a perfect day at the plate from senior Dakota Kolvik, Unadilla Valley won its second straight game Friday.
Kolvik doubled twice in a 4-for-4 day driving in two runs, while Brendan Brooker added two hits and two RBI.
Pitchers Brooker, Mitch Strom, and Austin Taylor combined to hold the Delhi hitters to six hits. "We didn't have any pitchers with proper rest, so I thought we did a good job piecing the pitching together," said UV coach Eileen Lawyer.
UV opened up its lead with four runs in the second. An error on Cory Lamb's hard groundball scored Conor Pope with the first tally. Kolvik doubled in Lamb and Jed Parker, and Brooker's double scored Kolvik to make it a 6-2 game. "The boys put together another good effort to win our second game," Lawyer said. "Everyone's contributing right now."

AFTON – Bainbridge-Guilford scored a single run in the top of the 10th inning to edge by Afton on Friday.
Sean Jones pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win, and Kyle Hanvey shut down the Crimson Knights in the tenth to secure the save.
Austin Carr homered and doubled to lead the Bobcats' batters.
Conor Graven-Briggs also homered for Afton in the loss.

HANCOCK – Hancock pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning to halt Oxford's modest two-game winning streak Friday.
Evan Bass capped a 2-for-3 day with a two-run single in the sixth, and Joe Gross added a sacrifice fly to up the Wildcats' lead to five runs. Gross, Bass, and Zach Worobey all had two hits in the game.
Kevin Davis was credited with Oxford's lone RBI.

COPES CORNERS – Franklin was aided by 10 G-MU errors, and finished off the five-inning mercy-rule contest with nine runs in the fifth in Friday's road win.
Joe Taranto went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored, and teammate Max Carey had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the visitors.

Windsor 9, Norwich 2
NORWICH – Windsor opened up its lead with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away for the win over Norwich Friday.
Allison Lockwood, Jordan Steele, and Cassidy Smith had RBIs in the fourth for the Black Knights, and Kasey Kosloski's two-run single highlighted the four-run sixth.
Norwich broke up the shutout with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jordan Sanford's double scored Shannon Moore, and Hannah Eddy added an RBI groundout plating Sanford.
"We were playing great through four innings, we just didn't get the bats going until late in the game," said Norwich coach Scott Moore.
Lockwood had three hits and two RBI to lead Windsor.
Norwich (3-10) hosts Chenango Valley on Tuesday.

VERNON – Vernon-Verona-Sherrill pitched back-to-back shutouts – the second game a no-hitter – to sweep a doubleheader from Sherburne-Earlville Friday.
Addy Szczerba pitched a five-hitter for the win in the first gave striking out 10. An outfield error by S-E – its lone miscue of the game – and Taylor Mautner's RBI double in the fourth accounted for V-V-S's runs. "It was a fantastic game, and V-V-S is the best team we've seen so far this season," said S-E coach Michelle Parker. "When we play like this, I'm not upset with losing."
Jordan Penoyer fanned five in the no-hitter, and helped her own cause with two hits. Alana Abel also had two hits for the Red Devils. "We put the ball in play and made their defense play," Parker said of the second game. "They were just perfect. Playing like this against an awesome team gives us the confidence that we can play with anyone in our league."
The Marauders play a non-league game against Unatego today.

SIDNEY – Kailyn Gravel Gravel homered driving in four runs for Sidney, and Mackensie Gravelin had three hits and two RBI in the Warriors' six-inning win over UV Saturday.
Connor Decker pitched four innings striking out six and allowing just one run to pick up the victory.
The Storm's Blaize Kolvik was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

SIDNEY – Sidney scored all of its runs in the first three innings to defeat the Trojans on Friday.
Connor Decker won her eighth game of the season picking up 14 strikeouts, and she helped her own cause with two hits including an RBI single in the third to give her team a six-run cushion.
"We started to make decent contact on Decker and had some good at-bats late in the game," said Greene coach Rick Smith. "We loaded the bases in the seventh, but we weren't able to capitalize enough."

Boys' Tennis

Norwich 7, Chenango Valley 0
FENTON – Norwich moved one victory from clinching a STAC East division title improving to 9-1 overall with a shutout win over Chenango Valley Friday.
Norwich clinched the decisive fourth team point less than one hour after the match started, said Norwich coach John Stewart. "We were efficient and took care of business today," Stewart said.
Norwich won its four singles matches in decisive fashion allowing just nine total games to the Warriors. Colin Stewart and Matt Craig each won by 6-0, 6-1 counts.
Norwich hosts Chenango Forks today.

In the marquee pairing of the day, Unadilla Valley sophomore Brenon Maynard earned overall medalist honors shooting an even-par 36, while Sherburne-Earlville standout, Max Britton, was one back with a 37.
