Norwich tennis finishes regular season with perfect division mark

Norwich 7, Oneonta 0
NORWICH – Norwich completed an unbeaten division schedule as it heads toward the STAC team playoffs this Friday blanking Oneonta Wednesday on senior recognition day.
All of the seniors in the Norwich lineup were part of straight sets wins including Zan Stewart, Colin Stewart, and Matt Craig in singles, first doubles team Brendon Budd and Alec Weaver, while senior Mike McLaughlin teamed with Jordan Vinal for a victory at third doubles.
Norwich will host Maine-Endwell at 4:15 p.m. in a matchup that head coach John Stewart believes is a toss-up. "They're senior loaded and we're senior loaded," Stewart said. "I think both teams will have their hands full, and it will be our best match of the season."
Norwich finishes the regular season 12-0 in division play and 13-1 overall.

Baseball

Oneonta 5, Norwich 1
ONEONTA – Oneonta left-hander Brock Eichler struck out 11 Norwich batters and allowed just four hits to earn the win over the Purple Tornado Wednesday.
The Yellowjackets, on top of the STAC East, scored two runs in their opening at-bat. Connor Tavarone doubled in the first run, and Tavarone later scored on Norwich's lone error of the game.
"I was happy with our play, and it was a good game to be a part of," said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. "They just made more baseball plays than us."
Norwich scored in the seventh when Chris Trevisani singled, and Chris Jeffrey ripped a line drive to the outfield that was misplayed. That error, Oneonta's lone miscue of the game, allowed Trevisani to come around to score.
Norwich hosts Owego Friday.

Clinton 9, Sherburne-Earlville 3
CLINTON – Clinton defeated Sherburne-Earlville for the second time this season Wednesday getting a perfect day at the plate from Reuben Hernandez.
Hernandez was a homer short of hitting for the cycle finishing 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Clinton expanded its lead with five runs in the fifth as S-E committed three of its six errors and all five runs were unearned. "We gave up run after run, and we have to clean up the defense," said S-E coach Jay Tackabury of the fifth inning.
Damian Cannistra and Brandon Broccoli added two hits in the win.
Ben Khoury had two of the Marauders' three hits and drove in one run.
The Marauders host Holland Patent Friday.

Morris 14, G-MU 13
MORRIS – For the second straight night, G-MU gave up a seventh-inning lead losing in walk-off fashion to Morris Wednesday.
Morris scored two runs on Zach Franklin's bases-loaded single giving the Mustangs the comeback win. "It doesn't feel good, but I guess it is what it is," said G-MU coach Dana Zietz. "After the game, we talked about closing out games because this has happened two days in a row. If we want to beat Richfield Springs Friday, we'll have to play better in the field."
The Raiders committed seven errors in the game, but only one miscue came in the final inning.
G-MU put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh to snag the one-run lead. Andrew Baker and Nate Fuller had RBI sacrifice flies, and the other two G-MU runs came in on an error and a passed ball.
Devin Fitch had three hits and five runs scored for the Raiders, Baker had two hits and three runs, Fuller plated two runs on two hits, and Nate O'Hara went 3-for-5.

Unadilla Valley 27, Walton 10
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley won for the fourth time in five games scoring 19 combined runs in the third and fourth innings to defeat Walton in the MAC mini tournament Wednesday.
The Storm sent 14 batters to the plate in the third highlighted by Dakota Kolvik's two-run triple, Will Martin's follow-up triple, and Austin Taylor's run-scoring two-bagger to cap the 10-run uprising.
Nick Stirone's two-run homer keyed a nine-run fourth for UV.
Taylor and Martin finished 3-for-3 with four RBI, Stirone had three hits and three RBI, while Kolvik, Brendan Brooker, and Conor Pope finished with two hits apiece.

Norwich 10, Oneonta 5
ONEONTA – Norwich defeated Oneonta for the first time in head coach Scott Moore's seven years with the team hitting three home runs for its fourth win of the season Wednesday.
Shannon Moore went deep twice driving in four runs, and Kassidy Seary added a two-run homer. Moore hit a two-run tater in the third, then a solo shot in the sixth. Seary followed Moore's homer in the sixth with a two-run jack driving in Jordan Sanford. Both players also had a single RBI on sacrifice flies. "The (opponent’s) pitching was almost identical to last night," Moore said, whose club topped 10 runs on Tuesday. "We just needed to be disciplined at the plate and hit the middle of the ball."
Norwich padded its advantage with five runs in the fourth. Katelyn Dowdall and Allison Yacano drew bases-loaded walks, Moore and Seary had their RBI sac flies, and Bridget Murphy connected on a RBI single. Murphy and Hannah Eddy also had two hits, and Eddy struck out nine to pick up the victory.
Norwich plays at Owego Friday.

MORRIS – G-MU drew six of the seven walks issued by Morris pitcher Liana Garry in the first inning scoring seven runs in Wednesday's road victory.
Molly D'Amato had two hits and two RBI for G-MU (6-3), and Rylee D'Addezio had two hits in the win.
Freshman Scarlett Newman struck out nine and allowed four Morris hits for the win. G-MU did incur seven errors, but most of those came in the first inning. "The defense played pretty well after the first inning, and Scarlett did a nice job for us," said G-MU coach Jim Johnson.
The Raiders play at Richfield Springs Friday.

NEW YORK MILLS – Unbeaten Clinton topped Sherburne-Earlville and Westmoreland in a tri-meet extending its mark to 11-0 on the season, Wednesday at Twin Ponds Golf Club.
Tim Scoones shared overall medalist honors shooting a 1-over-par 36 to lead Clinton.
Sherburne-Earlville's Max Britton matched Scoones' 36 to lead the Marauders, and Jacob Bennett followed with a season-best 39.
