ITHACA – Ithaca completed a perfect season wrapping up its fourth straight STAC title, while also extending its match win streak to 57 beating Norwich in the league final Monday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.
Coming off a win over Sus Valley last week in which it lost just one game in seven matches, the Little Red duplicated their shutout win over Norwich from earlier this season, although several of the sets in multiple matches were well contested.
"We played a lot better than the last time we faced them, unfortunately we fell short on some big points," said Norwich coach John Stewart.
Colin Stewart lost three of four deuce games at second singles, and Matt Craig dropped two deuce games to fall in the first set at third singles. "Ithaca was just a little bit steadier and a little bit stronger," Stewart said. "We came to compete today, and we did a good job."
Next up for the Purple Tornado is the Class B tournament Thursday and Friday at Oneonta High School.
