CV wins slugfest with Norwich, 17-12

Chenango Valley 17, Norwich 12
FENTON – Chenango Valley pounded out 20 hits winning a slugfest against visiting Norwich Wednesday afternoon.
The top six batters in the Warriors' order accounted for all of the hits led by Lexus Phillips, who had five hits and four runs scored. Earlier this season, CV edged Norwich 15-14 in another hitting showcase the featured better than a half-dozen extra-base hits.
"It was pretty much the same story as the last time we played them," said Norwich coach Scott Moore. "We got up on them early, then they took the lead back.
"We scored enough to win most games, we just got outhit tonight."
Norwich junior Kassidy Seary closed the season with her best offensive performance. Seary homered twice hitting a grand slam in the second, then she added a three-run jack in Norwich's six-run fifth for seven total RBI.
NHS junior Shannon Moore went 4-for-5 with three RBI, Hannah Eddy had three hits, while Gabby Mirabito and Allison Yacano picked up two hits apiece.
Norwich closes the season with a 4-14 record.

SHERBURNE – Canastota avenged a three-run loss to Sherburne-Earlville from last month scoring the winning run in the seventh on a Marauders error in Wednesday's matchup.
Kelly Mason had a two-run triple in the third that gave the Raiders a 3-1 advantage. S-E chipped away with single runs in the fourth and sixth, the latter run tying the game up.
"We hit the ball well today and we only struck out one time, but we hit it too many times at them and not into the holes," said S-E coach Michelle Parker.
Savannah Irwin had two RBI for the Marauders, who play at Little Falls today.

WORCESTER – Worcester scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion over G-MU Wednesday.
Winning pitcher Monica Ridgeway led off with a double, and moved to third on an overthrown cut-off from the Raiders' outfield. Brigid Kennison then grounded to shortstop, and Ridgeway beat the throw home for the winner.
G-MU received single RBI from Jenna Bakhuizen, Rylee D'Addezio, and Autumn Butler – none coming on a basehit. "We didn't hit the ball well today with runners in scoring position," said G-MU coach Jim Johnson.
The Raiders finish the regular season with a 6-6 record.

Boys' Tennis
Section IV Class B Tournament
ONEONTA – Norwich seniors Colin Stewart and Alexander Stewart will look for the three-peat as the Section IV Class B tennis tournament kicks off today at Oneonta High School.
The Stewarts, finalists the past four years and champions in 2013 and 2014, earned the top seed in the Class B draw. Additionally, Norwich seniors Brendon Budd and Alec Weaver grabbed the number three seed.
"It's familiar grounds for our guys," said Norwich coach John Stewart of his number one doubles team.
At singles, senior Matt Craig is seeded number two on the strength of two third-place finishes in singles over the past four years.
The tournament will continue with semifinals and finals on Friday as the Purple Tornado vie for a fifth straight Class B title.

SHERBURNE – Canastota pitcher Jake Purdy picked up his second win over Sherburne-Earlville this season tossing a two-hitter in a route-going performance Wednesday.
The Raiders opened up their lead in the third scoring five times to make it a 7-0 game. Aaron Quaglia delivered a two-run triple, and Zack Funari added an RBI single. "We made a couple of errors in the third, and that's been the story all year," said S-E coach Jay Tackabury. "We're not fielding well, and we're not hitting."
S-E hosts Adirondack Friday.

WORCESTER – Worcester capitalized on errors scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth to open a seven-run lead in Wednesday's home victory over G-MU.
Steven Griffin, Carson Pochkar, and Tanner Murphy had three hits apiece for the Wolverines.
"They did hit it well, but we made some simple errors that gave them extra bases or we didn't make a play to get the out we needed," said G-MU coach Dana Zietz.
Nate Fuller was 3-for-4 for G-MU (1-13), while Dan Primrose and Nate O'Hara collected two hits apiece.
"We were in a lot of games that we couldn't close out, but we are looking forward to next season," Zietz said.
