Adirondack avenges early-season loss to S-E

Adirondack 9, Sherburne-Earlville 1
SHERBURNE – Adirondack avenged an early-season loss to Sherburne-Earlville clinching a Center State Conference division title Friday.
S-E's Miranda Wright had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth drawing her team to with 3-1.
Adirondack responded in a big way as Jamie Miller smacked a grand slam upping the lead to six runs. "We didn't fall apart (after the home run)," said S-E coach Michelle Parker. "We came back and got them out one, two, three."
Miller had three hits in the win, while Danielle Mastraccio and Arielle Kranbuhl had two hits apiece. "Adirondack came in with a purpose today and pounded the ball," Parker said. "But we stayed in it, and I still thought we were in the game going into the seventh inning."
The regular season home finale for the Marauders also served as a fundraiser, "Playing for a Cure." Parker said $510 was raised for a designated family in the community.
S-E plays at Herkimer today.

Unatego 8, Greene 5
GREENE – Mariah LeVeille had three hits for Unatego including a three-run homer in the fourth to give her club the lead for good in Friday's victory at Greene.
Greene snagged the lead with four runs in the third when Lydia Howard homered, J.B. Taft scored one with a single. Brittany Johnson backed that up with a two-run single.
Laura Durdon and Taft had two hits for Greene.

Baseball

Adirondack 10, Sherburne-Earlville 0
SHERBURNE – Adirondack pitcher Dalton Schultz took a no-hitter into the seventh inning finishing with a one-hit shutout in Friday's victory at Sherburne-Earlville.
Schultz struck out 14 Marauders in the game. His no-hit bid was broken up by Marauders senior Tyler Matott, who laced a clean single to left field.
"Schultz threw mostly fastballs the whole game, and we just couldn't catch up to him," said S-E coach Jay Tackabury.
Gavin Chambers had two hits and three RBI for Adirondack, and teammates Gavin Merriam and Ethan Weidmer also had two hits.
S-E sophomore pitcher, Trevor May, was the hard-luck loser giving up just two earned runs in a route-going performance.
The Marauders play at Herkimer today.

Golf

Section IV Medalist Tournament
ITHACA – For just the second time in five seasons, a Chenango County golfer did not earn a spot on the Section IV state tournament team.
In Saturday's second round of the tournament, 2014 state team member, sophomore Ryan Johnson of Norwich, shot an 83 over the Cornell University par-71 golf course. Matched with his first-round 83 Thursday, Johnson finished out of a playoff for the final qualifying spot by one stroke. Norwich’s other second-day qualifier, Joe Mioduszewski, posted a 178 aggregate.
Unadilla Valley sophomore Brenon Maynard, appearing in his second medalist tournament, had rounds of 82 and 85 to finish two shots out of a playoff.
Dan Lapp, a sophomore from Trumansburg, claimed low overall medalist honors for the second time in three years with a two-day total of 153. Nate Wrighter of Windsor was second at 155.
The top nine golfers in the two-day Section IV Medalist Tournament will appear in the state tournament May 30-June 1 at Cornell University Golf Course.
