Tioga 10, Bainbridge-Guilford 4

TIOGA – Bainbridge-Guilford's typically rock-solid pitching came unraveled in the fifth inning Thursday at Tioga.

The Tigers took advantage of six B-G walks and one hit batter to erase a 4-1 deficit scoring eight runs during the uprising. Jesse Manuel had a two-run double and Adam Zwierlein added an run-scoring two-bagger.

"When you get to the sectional quarterfinals against a good team, you have to make them earn their way on," said B-G coach Tim Mattingly, whose club issued 10 walks in the game. "Our pitching just struggled today. I knew we were young and I was concerned, but it happens."

Kyle Hanvey and Dylan Mondore each had two hits and one RBI in defeat, Bailey Green went 2-for-4, and freshman Trevor Halaquist drove in one run.

Mattingly, a three-sport coach for B-G and a 1976 Bobcats graduate, announced his retirement earlier this year, and said he is hanging it up (as a coach) in all three sports.

"I think I'm all done," Mattingly said. "It's been quite a ride and I love what I do. I feel like I'm going out on a high note, so it's been awesome."
