66th Annual Pageant of Bands competition kicks off this weekend
SHERBURNE – This weekend marks the 66th annual Pageant of the Bands competition in Sherburne, NY. The pageant is considered to be the largest, oldest, and one of the most well respected band pageants in the state.
There will be approximately 30 junior and senior high school bands participating in the pageant this year and there are expected to be up to 20,000 people who will come to watch them compete.
Festivities will begin Thursday June 4 at 4 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble and Small Ensemble Competitions will be held Thursday and Friday evenings in the Sherburne-Earlville Middle/High School auditorium at 4 p.m.
Saturday June 6 is when the full day of competition begins. Events will kick off that morning at 9:00 AM with Concert Band Competitions at different sites in the Sherburne-Earlville High School and will be running most of the day. The Grand Parade Competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will process through downtown Sherburne with the reviewing area on Main Street in the center of town.
Following the parade at 1:30 PM, the Drum Line Competition will take place at Marauder Stadium, as well as the awards for the competition. This will lead into the “Presentation of Awards” at 4:30 PM. 1st through 5th place trophies will be awarded in all classes for the concert and parade competitions.
