NORWICH – The Chenango Hellcats' American Legion baseball team made a successful debut to the 2015 season blanking Whitney Point Sunday, 4-0.

The Hellcats made the most of just three hits, and rode the strong pitching of starter Joe DeVona (Afton), with scoreless relief help from Trevor May (Sherburne-Earlville).

DeVona fanned 10, allowed four hits, and did not walk a batter in five innings to earn the win, while May tossed two scoreless innings for the save.

All four runs for the Hellcats were scored in the fourth. Jon Liuzzo's two-run single scored DeVona and Jon Heggie (Oxford). John Yacano (Norwich) knocked in Liuzzo, and Conor Graven-Briggs' (Afton) groundout plated Cameron Heggie (Oxford).
