SHERBURNE - This weekend marks the second consecutive year that Rogers Environmental Center in Sherburne offers its Annual Family Fishing Day. Inviting young and old, all those for a passion for fishing, or just the casual fisherman, are sure to have a good time.
Kicking off Saturday June 20 at 9 a.m., Family Fishing Day at Rogers Environmental Center is a great opportunity for anyone of any age to learn all about fishing.
“We are going to have people there all day to help instruct the kids,” said Simon Solomon, the Executive Director at Rogers Center. “At the end of the day though it’s just all about getting the kids outdoors and having fun.”
Rogers Center is an environmental center focused on bringing outdoor education to any and all who want to learn.
This weekend the staff will be instructing and teaching about the proper way to fish and learn about the habitat around the water. “We will have microorganisms under microscopes for everyone to look at and learn about,” said Solomon. “At the end of the day it’s about getting comfortable with the whole process of baiting the hook, catching the fish, and getting the fish off the hook.” Solomon went on to say that there will be an instructional process during the day, but they want that to be included in the fun, which is their main goal. The importance of proper fishing can not be overstated. If fishing is done improperly, harm can be done to the fish and even to the fisherman.
Poles and bait will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Feel free to bring your own pole and bait as well. The main ice pond will be where the event will be taking place. Throughout the day refreshments will be sold by Stewart’s Shop. Rogers Center also wants to thank Trout Unlimited and County Line Outdoors of Earlville for providing the worms and bait for the fishermen.
