Oneonta 3, Chenango Hellcats 2 (9 innings)
NORWICH – Dalton Carver's triple to left field scored Noah Sheehan with the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as Oneonta edged the Chenango Hellcats in extra innings Tuesday.
Oneonta tied the game at 2-2 with two runs in the top of the sixth. Josh Garufi doubled to deep left-center field scoring two runs, but Garufi was thrown out attempting to reach third base.
The Hellcats grabbed the lead with two runs of their own in the last of the fifth. After a Nate Scheer double and John Yacano walk, Kyle Crawford legged out an infield single to load the bases. Scheer scored on a wild pitch, and Jon Heggie's sacrifice fly to right field plated Yacano.
Oneonta's Collin Neer pitched three innings of hitless relief to earn the victory. "The last four games, we've been right there," said Hellcats coach Jason Miller. "It's still early in the season and we're coming together."
Miller also expressed appreciation to Norwich City Schools employee Roger Monk, who ensured tarp was placed on the field during Tuesday's morning and early-afternoon rainstorms.
