Troopers continue to investigate case of missing Morris man

MORRIS – New York State Troopers are still actively seeking a missing person, Yishiro A. Hamata, who has not been seen since June 16. Hamata was last seen last Tuesday in the Oneonta area.
Troopers are dilligently searching for Hamata, aka Tyrell Avery Rogers, and it is considered an open investigation.
“We are speaking to relatives and anyone who may know where he is,” said New York State Troop C Captain James Barnes of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. “Right now we are just concerned for Mr. Hamata’s welfare.”
Local media outlets have raised the suspicion that Hamata may have reported himself dead to The Daily Star in Oneonta in May 2014, and authorities are now questioning whether or not Hamata staged his own disappearance.
Authorities have indicated that Hamata has a history of manipulating his identity and has previous convictions of forgery amongst other crimes.
According to The Daily Star staff, an individual who identified himself as John Hamata placed an obituary notice with Oneonta paper on behalf of Tyrell A. Rogers of Oneonta on May 30, 2014. Hamata had reported to The Daily Star that Rogers was 21 years old and had died of a heart attack while on vacation in France.
Currently, however, Troopers are still treating this as a missing persons case. “Right now we have no credible information that he has been harmed,” said Captain Barnes.
Troopers are looking for any information that may lead to finding Hamata as soon as possible.
Hamata is described as a black male who is approximately 6’ 01” and weighs between 285 and 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray pullover sweatshirt, jeans, and black shoes. Hamata has a tattoo on his left arm of the initials “KOC” with red starts running down from the letters. On his right inner forearm he has a tattoo of a Chinese symbol for the word phantom.
Anyone with information about Hamata or anyone who may have seen him please contact the New York State Troopers at 607-561-7400.
Other news agencies have reported that a racist note and bloody knife were found in Hamata’s vehicle in New Berlin. New York State Troopers and the Otsego County District Attorney were both contacted by The Evening Sun staff to confirm or deny this, yet neither returned a call for comment as of press time.
