Sherburne Rotary announces concert series lineup

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne Rotary Club has announced the lineup of its 26th annual summer concert series held downtown at Gaines Park, Sherburne Village.
A dynamic lineup covering the musical gamut has been planned for the summer concert series, and the series is slated to run Wednesday, July 8 2015 through Wednesday August 5. The weekly concerts begin at 6 p.m., wrapping up by approximately 8:30 p.m. Food and vending will be made available for sale through the Sherburne Rotary food booth.
The season kicks off with Appalachia favorite Mountain Quickstep. The group that consists of John Kirk, Trish Miller, Sara Milanovich and Greg Anderson have all played the Sherburne stage in summers past. With 18 years of performing experience together, this ensemble creates indelible connections and a sense of community through music, song and dance.
Lively fiddle tunes, lonesome folk songs and fancy footwork unite as this versatile quartet presents mountain music in concert. They combine elements of old-time, bluegrass, folk and early country music from the Adirondack, Appalachian, Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Mountain Quicksteps dynamic instrumental skills on twin fiddles, banjo, mandolin, guitar and bass unite with toe-tapping Appalachian clog dancing and 4-part vocal harmonies to showcase the diversity of rural American music.
Local favorite Jared Campbell returns to Sherburne for the second installation on July 15. Campbell is an award winning singer and songwriter who places an emphasis on makeing a positive impact on the lives of his audience. Through experiencing joy, finding comfort through pain, and looking past obstacles towards living a better life, Campbells music is uplifting, thought provoking and emotionally heartfelt.
On July 22, The Horn Dogs —featuring Sherburne’s own Shelly Harris on percussion and vocals—will liven up the crowd with their exciting brass-drenched high-energy set. The Horn Dogs are always adding new music and keeping on top of today's trends and still playing new timeless classics and at new venues throughout Upstate New York.
A community favorite, the Smyrna Citizens Band will host the downtown audience on July 29. Community members are encouraged to listen to family, friends and neighbors as they play old time favorites, overtures, and Sousa marches. Steeped in Americana, and marking thier 89th consecutive year of playing, the group of approximately 40 musicians play for the love of playing and are as enjoyable as they are entertaining.
The final concert of the summer will be held August 5 and will feature Kaitlyn Jackson and Hometown. Kaitlyn is a young, talented local performer from Norwich. Already she has won many awards and is being recognized as a rising star. She will perform an array of country and pop music and has performed at many local venues and appeared in the series American Idol.
Those new to the Sherburne concert series can find the action downtown on East State Street in Gaines Park next to the Sherburne Public Library. Seating is not provided, and everyone is encouraged to bring along their own chair or blanket.
The Sherburne Music in the Park project is made possible through the organizational support of Sherburne Rotary as well as a number of local businesses and individuals that have supported the series financially though donations of services or goods.
In case of inclement weather the concert location will be changed to Sherburne Firehouse or the Sherburne - Earlville Central School auditorium.
During each of the performances, organizers have also planned a 50/50 raffle, the payout of which will be split between one lucky winner and three local food pantries.
