Accused drug dealer from Utica, others appear in Chenango County Court

NORWICH - It was a busy Monday in Chenango County Court as 14 individuals were set to see County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. Defendants were in the court on charges ranging from drug arrests to assault.
Eight defendants were arraigned Monday, June 29. Most notable was Michael B. Mack of Utica. Mack was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, tampering with evidence, an E felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, an A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that Mack, along with another individual, was caught with a large amount of narcotics by local authorities. Assistant District Attorney Michael Ferrarese spoke on behalf of the people during the day at court.
According to Ferrarese, Mack could face up to a nine-year sentence in state penitentiary for his crime.
“He has an extensive prior record,” said Ferrarese. “This guy comes to our community to sell drugs and has been doing it for a while.”
Due to Mack’s extensive record, he was given bail set at $50,000 cash or $500,000 bond.
Another individual, Akuami J. Copeland, was arraigned as well. Copeland was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault in the second degree and one count of attempted assault. It is alleged that Copeland attacked three workers at the Valley Ridge CIT using a dangerous instrument, injuring two. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Copeland has shown a history of violence. Ultimately the court ruled that Copeland be held on $5,000 cash bail.
A third defendant, Donald P. Scott of Afton, was arraigned on charges of unlawfully manufacturing methamphetamines in the third degree, a class D felony. According to the charges, Scott allowed his residence to be a place in where methamphetamines were manufactured. Due to the seriousness of these allegations, Scott could face up to two and a half years in a state correctional facility. He is currently held on $5,000 cash bail.
All individuals are considered to be innocent until proven guilty and will continue with their cases by appearing again at a later date.
