Chenango Bird Club calls all outdoor enthusiasts

CHENANGO COUNTY – As the summer “flies” by, the Chenango Bird Club will be meeting again for the third walk in its summer evening birdwatching series on Wednesday July 8. This walk will be along the Chenango Canal north of Hamilton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

The Chenango Bird Club is calling for all those who are interested to meet at the Woodman Rd canal crossing at 6:00 p.m., or car pool from Rogers Center’s visitor parking lot at 5:30 p.m., as the remnants of the Chenango Canal traverse great bird habitat between Woodman Pond and Leland Pond. As the birds are busy courting, nesting, feeding their young, and defending their territory, they are sure to be out and vocal.

Leading the walk is Fred Von Mechow, former Rogers Program Director and Chenango Bird Club member. As a long time birder and veteran of the area, Von Mechow will point out birds’ visual field marks and songs. All are encouraged to come as there are binoculars to share and refreshments after the walk.
