40th annual Lobsterfest to bring politics and seafood together

NORWICH – Long hailed by organizers as “the biggest non-political political event of the year,” Lobsterfest is expected to draw in hundreds of political aficionados later this month.
The Chenango County Republican Committee will host the 40th annual Lobsterfest from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. Though traditionally held at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich, a change of venue this year will bring a new flavor to the event, said Chenango County Republican Committee Chairman Tom Morrone. The this year’s gala will be held at the Northeast Classic Car Museum on Rexford Street in the City of Norwich.
“We’re very pleased to be working with the Northeast Classic Car Museum,” Morrone said. “I think it’s really going to make Lobsterfest a great success. It’s going to bring people into the city to see the community and the county, and to see the museum and the great collection of cars we have in Norwich.”
Each year, Lobsterfest invites political pundits from the local, state and federal levels to a mixer of seafood and politics. Public figures including retired Congressman Tom Reynolds, New York State Senators Tom Libous and James Seward, and Assemblymen Clifford Crouch and Gary Finch are all expected to attend this year.
The committee has additionally gotten responses from Victoria A. Graffeo, Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals; and 2014 lt. gubernatorial candidate Chris Moss. Event founder Clarence “Rapp” Rappleyea, former Assembly Minority Leader, is also expected to attend.
Morrone predicts that more than 400 people will make their way to Lobsterfest – an annual tradition that he says has evolved into more of a picnic and social gathering than an occasion for political banter. Although the event has its roots in politics, he said it has become much more than a platform to discuss hot-button issues.
“People come to spend time with their friends and neighbors and meet with their representatives. It doesn’t matter about your affiliation. All are welcome to enjoy good company and good food,” he said.
Being a milestone year for the event, organizers also plan to honor Rappleyea for his work in the local and state levels.
“I really want to thank all the people from and around Chenango County who attend and help sponsor Lobsterfest to make the event a success moving forward,” Morrone added.
Tickets for the 2015 Lobsterfest are $60 each and available to anyone. To purchase a ticket or for further information, contact Morrone at 226-3271 or Joseph Angelino at 226-1110. Or find “Chenango County Republican Party” on Facebook.
