Hellcats drop final to Vestal

Vestal 7, Chenango Hellcats 1
NORWICH – Vestal pulled away from the Hellcats with five runs over the final two innings to pick up the American Legion victory Monday night in Norwich.
Mickey Mullins and Jake Spellane had two RBI apiece for Vestal in the victory. Mike Kosty and T.J. Wegmann also had two hits in the victory.
Vestal pitcher Chris Puzakylies tossed a complete-game victory striking out seven, walking one, and scattering five Hellcats basehits.
The Hellcats' Nate Scheer went 2-for-3, and he drove in his team's lone run.

Otsenango Pony League

Oxford 6, Norwich 5
NORWICH – After Norwich clawed back to tie the game in the fifth, Oxford put two runs across in the seventh to hand the host club its first loss of the season in Otsenango Pony League play Monday.
Oxford's Austin Crawford singled with one out in the seventh, Dylan Depew walked, and Jack Spence was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wild pitches then scored each of Oxford's runs.
Marcus Cashman had an RBI double in the seventh drawing Norwich to within one. Cashman's double piggy-backed his three-run double in the fifth. Mike Trevisani added a run-scoring single in the fifth plating Seth Wessels.
"This was a reality check for us," said Norwich coach Nick McCullough. "We're a good team, but we're not unbeatable. We'll learn from this going into the playoffs."
Dylan Depew was 2-for-2 on the Oxford side.
Cashman went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Norwich hosts Edmeston on Thursday in the first round of the playoffs.

Softball

Bainbridge 4, Oneonta 3
ONEONTA – Bainbridge's 18U softball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Oneonta in the Oneonta Fast Pitch League last weekend.
A two-run error by Oneonta scored Paige Polizzi and Jillian Cannistra.
Kori Thornton pitched seven strong innings for Bainbridge to pick up the win. Thornton scattered five Oneonta hits and fanned 13.
Polizzi went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Cannistra tripled driving in one run and scoring another.
