COOPERSTOWN – Oxford scored two runs in the top of the sixth to open a three-run lead and hold on for the Otsenango Pony League playoff victory over Cooperstown Thursday.
Josh Nelson walked and Austin Crawford was hit by a pitch to start a two-out rally for Oxford. Stolen bases moved the runners up, and a Cooperstown throwing error to third base created the three-run cushion.
Nelson delivered Oxford's biggest hit of the game lashing a three-run triple in the second inning to score Jack Spence, Josh Christian, and Brad Beckwith.
Beckwith went 2-for-2 in the game, and Josiah Crandall added an RBI hit to support Crawford's winning pitching effort.
Crawford fanned 15 and scattered eight hits.

ENDWELL – The Chenango Hellcats dropped back-to-back games this weekend mustering just four total hits in two-run losses to Cooperstown and Maine-Endwell.
Sunday, M-E's Matt Isham tossed a one-hit shutout – and allowed just one Hellcats player to reach base – in a masterful performance.
Isham struck out five in the victory as the Hellcats' Nate Scheer was the player to reach base. Scheer doubled to lead off the second, then drew a walk in the sixth.
Kyle Balmer's sacrifice fly scored Kevin Barrett in the fourth for the game's first run, then Drew Gallagher came home in the fifth on Connor Wasilnak's bunt single.
Friday, Clayton Lyon led Edmeston with two hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Lyon had a three-run double in the second that opened a 6-2 lead. Ethan Bliss had two RBI in the loss.
Scheer again led the Hellcats at the plate driving in three runs.
