Man found dead after dive search in Town of Chenango

CHENANGO – A Binghamton man was found dead after a lengthy search and rescue operation was led by State Troopers on Sunday.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Troopers with the assistance of Chenango Bridge Fire Department and Broome County Dive Team were called to investigate a missing swimmer at a quarry located at 1564 State Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, approximately eight miles south of the Chenango-Broome County line.
The deceased swimmer was located by the New York State Police Scuba Team and has identified as Robert Burts age 20 of 23 Travis Ave., Binghamton, NY.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday July 20, at Wilson Memorial Hospital. It is believed that the incident was accidental in nature, and no foul play has been suspected. The investigation is continuing at this time.
