Loomis and Boyer edge out field to capture Canasawacta Country Club Member-Guest title

PLYMOUTH - After three days of play and 54 holes of golf, the team of Brian Loomis and Bryan Boyer came out on top to capture the pair’s first championship.
In a close finish the pair beat out some tough competition to capture their first plate as a team. Loomis and Boyer finished with a total score of 203 over three round to beat out the second and third place teams by just one stroke. Finishing second and third were the teams of Tim Carson and Scott Seiler and Justin Bennett and Scotty Seiler Jr., respectively.
The two teams both finished at 204 and were placed via a scorecard playoff. To determine the winner of a scorecard playoff the lower of the two teams’ final rounds will win them victory.
Loomis and Boyer lead all three rounds in the tournament by just a few strokes at some points. The team finished the tournament with 13 birdies and just three bogies. “Today (Saturday) was kind of a struggle,” said Brian Loomis, “Our puts weren’t falling and we had to manage just to hold on to the win.”
Loomis went on to say that play on Friday was about the same as play on Thursday. The pair finished the day on Friday with a 67 and sunk five birdies and only one bogey.
Last year’s champions Matt Burrell and and Craig Dawson finished last in the Masters flight with a total score of 219.
The pair that ran away with the tournament last year was unable to keep their bogey-free streak alive. The former champs started off the weekend strong shooting a 69 and a 70 on the first two days, but ended up shooting an 80 on the final day, dropping them into last place in their flight.
As Loomis and Boyer were attempting to keep up their lead, Tim Carson and Scott Seiler came roaring back from six shots down to try and regain the lead. Shooting the best round of the tournament at a 65, Carson and Seiler looked impressive enough to take the lead; sinking key puts on the back nine to decrease the deficit. As impressive as it was, their comeback was not enough to take the lead from the pair of Loomis and Boyer.
“We got off to a decent start,” said Boyer on his final round. “Brian was playing really well and we tried to limit our mistakes as much as we could.”
The pair did just that and held on to their slim margin of victory to take home the top flight’s championship. Opening the final round three strokes above the next best team, the duo did all they could to hold on to the victory for the first time partners. Loomis has won in years past, stating that he hasn’t won a flight since 2002, but has never won with Boyer.
“We fed off of each other as much as we could,” Loomis said. “We just played as well as we could to hold on to our lead.”
The pair both were given a chance to speak after they were presented with their flight’s championship plates during the awards dinner. Both golfers gave due credit to their partners and said that they couldn’t have done it without each other.
