Annual Chenango County Fair Talent Competition once again a success
NORWICH – The Chenango County Fair featured its annual Talent Competition on August 15, 2015 at noon. Despite a late time change of the event from 1:00 p.m. of that day to noon, organizers said they had a very good turnout.
The event featured two divisions in the competition, a Mini Contest for the 12 and under division and the Talent Hunt made up of the 13 and over division.
There were four categories for each of the two divisions, as well as prizes for first, second, and third place. The categories for each age division were: Vocal, Instrumental, Variety, and Dance, as well as a Best of Show award for the overall competition.
“We had a great turn-out of contestants & they were all extremely talented,” said Terri Jackson spokesperson for the Talent Competition.
Those who won or placed in the Talent Competition are as follows:
Mini Division (12 and under)
-Instrumental Category:
-1st Place: Rylee Lum-9 yrs old (played parts of 4 songs on guitar)
-Vocal:
-1st Place: Leona Tyler-8 yrs old (Sang "Happiness")
-2nd Place: Lewis Rivas-11 yrs old (Sang "Beautiful Life")
-3rd Place: Chloe Glanville-11 yrs old (Sang "Don't Stop Believing")
Talent Hunt Division (13 and over)
-Variety: 1st Place Michael Gray (Magician)
-Vocal: 1 point difference between 1st & 2nd & 10 point difference for 3rd
-1st Place: Hunter Conners (Sang "Now & Forever")
-2nd Place: Shannon Stark (Sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight")
-3rd Place: Kira Santoni (Sang "Colors of the Wind)
-Vocal with self accompaniment on guitar:
-1st Place: Megan Levy (Sang Original song, "Cut & Pasted")
-2nd Place: Amy Michelle (Sang "Grandma's Song")
-3rd Place: Destinie Smith (Sang "Ho Hey")
-Dance: 1st Place Brooke Brown (Modern Solo)
Best of show: All 1st place winners in both divisions and each category performed again. The overall winner was Hunter Conners.
“Several contestants qualified to participate in the NYS Fair Talent Showcase in Syracuse which has ribbons and cash prizes of up to $3,000. Best wishes to all of them,” said Terri Jackson.
The Talent Competition would like to give special thank you to all contestants who performed as well as: Brianna Swanger, Kaitlyn Jackson, & Arianne LoGerfo for judging the competition, Brian Aikens and Andrew Jackson for providing the sound, and John Jackson for being the Master of Ceremonies.
“I'm so glad that I'm still able to be a part of the talent show. It's nice to keep being involved in it since it was such a huge part of my childhood. I feel that because I have been in the competition so many times, I really know what the contestants are experiencing and what to look for in a performance,” said Kaitlyn Jackson, Talent Competition Judge and American Idol Season 13 Contestant.
