Speedway replaces Hess stations
NORWICH – Two long-time gas stations in Norwich were seen undergoing a major change on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at approximately 1 p.m.
Both former Hess gas stations on Route 12, one just north the City of Norwich and the other just south, were closed, roped off and under construction, as it appeared a new company was to move in in its place.
“All I can say is that we did buy out the local Hess stations there,” said a Speedway LLC customer service representative when asked about the change.
It was publicly announced last Thursday Aug. 20, that a $2.87 billion deal was made to sell the Hess chain to Marathon Petroleum's Speedway LLC. This deal would expand the market which Hess had of nine states to 23 states along the east coast and in the Southeast. The deal took place in 2014.
The transaction includes all of Hess' retail locations, transport operations and shipper history on various pipelines, including approximately 40,000 barrels per day on Colonial Pipeline that runs from New York to Houston.
The Public Relations Employee for Speedway LLC will not be available for comment until Friday August 28th; updates on the change will be made when they become available.
