PLYMOUTH - After a tough loss to Johnson City in a tiebreaker on Thursday August, 27, the Purple Tornado turned right back around and beat Sidney the very next day on their home course.
On Friday, August, 28 the Sidney Warriors came to Canasawacta Country Club to take on Norwich in what would be a dominating victory for the Tornado. Norwich would end the day with a score of 201 while Sidney only shot a 252. Shooting the low round for the Tornado and for the match was Brenon Maynard who shot a 36 for the day. Only three strokes behind Maynard was Ryan Johnson who shot a 39.
For the Warriors it was Trenton Stillman who shot their low score with a 37. The day was Norwich’s as their top five players would outshoot the Sidney golfers in almost every single match up, winning the match by 51 strokes. Norwich is back in action today at 11:00 a.m. when they travel to Vestal Hills to take on Seton Catholic in their next match-up.

NORWICH - In their first match of the season the Norwich varsity girl’s tennis team took on Chenango Valley and won a decisive victory. Winning the day 6-1 the Norwich girls won every match that they competed in, giving Chenango Valley the one win on a forfeit.
In singles action the Purple Tornado was almost perfect in their first two competitors, giving up a combined three games. Norwich’s Makenzie Maynard and Caroline Stewart both won their matches 6-0, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-1, respectively. “It was a great win and a great start to the season,” said Norwich Head Coach John Stewart. “We’ve got some new players in some new positions and I think they played extremely well for us.”
In doubles play the Tornado girls were just as impressive, winning two of the three matches in only two sets, the third match was lost to a forfeit. Freshman twins Ava and Olivia Granquist gained their first varsity win in exciting fashion as they beat Chenango Valley’s Haley Spencer and Linsey Reardon in two sets. “The Granquist girls had a great win,” Stewart said. “They had a bit of a shakey start but came right back after a few adjustments. I’m proud of the way they played.”
Norwich plays again on Wednesday September, 2 at 3:00 p.m. when they take on Owego in their second match of the season.
