Soccer
NORWICH - Starting off their season yesterday Tuesday, September, 1, the Norwich girls’ soccer team took on a tough Chenango Forks team at home, ultimately falling 7-1. “Forks is a very good team,” said Norwich Coach Adam Sprague. “It was unfortunate that we had to face them so early in the season, I think that we can only get better as the season goes on.”
The first half of the game was all Chenango Forks, as the Blue Devils scored three unanswered goals in the first to extend a lead that would not be eclipsed. It wasn’t until the second half when Norwich got on the scoreboard earning their one goal of the game. It was Savannah Williams that scored for Norwich. Williams took the ball unassisted down the left field sidelines and fired a shot from approximately 18 yards out and netted the ball in the top left corner of the goal. “It was a fantastic strike with a great finish,” Sprague said.
The Purple Tornado defense had their work cut out for them as goal keeper Cassidy Seary registered four saves on the day; but ultimately Forks’ offense proved too much for Norwich and earned them their victory. “I’m still pretty positive on this season,” Sprague said. “We’ve got a lot of improvements to make but I think that we have a lot of winable games in our future.”
