SHERBURNE - This weekend the Sherburne-Earlville girls’ varsity soccer team hosted a tournament on the Sherburne field. The Marauders won their first game, but lost in the championship.
Their first game of the weekend was on Friday, September, 4 against Unatego. The game would be tied at the end of regulation and would go into overtime. At the end of the first overtime the score was again tied and would be forced into double overtime where S-E finally came out on top 3-2.
Sierra Barker opened the scoring in the first half for S-E with a penalty kick, with an assist from Morgan Simpson. A little later in the half S-E’s Taylor Coughlin made it 2-0 before a Unatego score cut the lead to 2-1 going into half time.
In the second half of play, Unatego’s Bailey Faulkner tied the game in the 2nd half to send the game to overtime. With 4:30 left in the 2nd overtime Coughlin took a pass from Savannah Irwin and buried it to end the game and send The Marauder girls on to the championship game on Saturday night vs. Central Valley Academy.

SHERBURNE - In the S-E girls’ second game of the weekend they fell short to Central Valley Academy 7-4 in the championship game of their tournament.
In the championship game both teams scored early and often with the first half ending with CVA up 3-2 on the Marauders. The second half went much of the same way for both teams as the game ended with a 7-4 victory for CVA, capturing the tournament’s title. The girls played again Tuesday, September, 8 when they traveled to Cooperstown.
SHERBURNE - Last Friday, September, 4 the Sherburne-Earlville boys’ varsity soccer team participated in a tournament where they would lose their first game and tie their second. In the first round the Marauder boys played against Trumansburg and ultimately lost 5-1. In that game the lone S-E goal was scored by Tyler Rodriguez. In the consolation game S-E played against Central Valley Academy and tied 3-3. Scoring for Sherburne-Earlville were Kyle Pole who had two goals and Cole Olsen who had one goal.
The S-E boys were back at it again yesterday, September, 8, when they traveled to Clinton and would ultimately end up on the wrong side of a 10-1 score.
After the first half S-E was down 5-0 with very little offense to show. The lone Marauder goal was scored by Jordan Colmes. Colmes was fed the ball by Salvatore Maggro who then fired a shot past Clinton defenders for the score. “It has been an up and down season,” said Sherburne-Earlville coach Mike Rodriguez. “We have a lot of young players who are still getting used to playing varsity.”
The S-E boys will play again this Monday, September, 14, when they travel to Holland Patent.

ONEONTA - Last night, Wednesday, September, 9, the Norwich boys' varsity soccer team traveled to Oneonta to take on long time division rivals in a match up that would end in a 4-0 win for the Yellow Jackets.
The Oneonta boys started off strong and scored all four of their goals in the first half of play. "We were having problems possessing the ball," said Norwich coach Scottie Decker. "We couldn't really get much offense going the whole game."
The second half of play was a different story for the Purple Tornado as they stepped up and did not allow any goals all 40 minutes. Norwich goal keeper Keegan Prime registered 16 saves on the day and was an integral part of the Norwich defense. Decker said that her team played much better in the second half and that they have a lot of things to work on in practice. "We need to work on controlling the ball in the air more," Decker said. "We didn't do that very well tonight."
Norwich plays next tomorrow, Friday, September, 11, when Susquehannah Valley travels to Norwich in a division match up.

Scoring the first goal of the game was Norwich's Savannah Williams. Williams soared a free kick past the defense to make the game 1-0 Purple with 20:00 minutes left to go in the first half. The rest of the game was all Oneonta. The Yellow Jacket's Abigail Pitchnick Oneonta's first two goals, effectively ending the game for Norwich.
Later in the match It was Oneonta's Jordan Guyford who netted a third goal, giving the game its final score of 3-1 Oneonta. "We played a pretty good game," said Norwich coach Adam Sprague. "If we can play the full 80 minutes like we did the first half, we should be a great team."
Norwich is back in action today when they travel to Susquehannah Valley in another league match up.

GREENE - In their game Tuesday, September, 8, the Sidney Warriors traveled to Greene to take on the girls varsity squad and ultimately won 1-0.
In a game that had very little offense but plenty of defense, the winning goal came at 17:00 minutes left in the second half. Sidney's Maraih Gifford fired a shot that slipped past Greene defenders and into the goal for the winning score.
Greene's offense couldn't quite find their mark as they fired nine shots throughout the game, none of which finding their mark.
The Trojan women are back at it Friday, September, 18, when they travel to Walton.

OXFORD - The Oxford varsity golf team took on visiting Harpursville-Afton Tuesday, September, 8, in a match that would see the Blackhawks earn their fourth win of the season.
Shooting the low round of the match was Oxford's Jacob Marrone, who shot a 44 on the day. Followed closely behind him was Harpursville-Afton's Alex Peterson, who scored a 45. Also shooting scores of note were Oxford's Kevin Davis and Josh Nelson who earned 46's on the day. At the end of play Oxford finished with a total of 237, while their opponent finished with a 262.
Oxford is back in action Tuesday, September, 15, when Bainbridge-Guilford comes to town.

NORWICH - The Norwich varsity girls' tennis team extended their winning streak Tuesday, September, 8, when Chenango Forks came to town. The Purple Tornado finished the match up 4-3 and is still undefeated in match play.
With the score tied 3-3, Norwich's second doubles team, sisters Ava and Olivia Granquist, beat forks doubles team to give Norwich's 4th point and the win. Extending their unbeaten records in single's play Norwich's Caroline Stewart and Samantha Gage won their matches 6-0, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-1 respectively.
Pulling out the victory were the Granquist sisters. As Norwich was tied going into the final match both sisters were calm and composed, beating their opponents 6-4 in both matches.
Norwich Tennis is back on the court today when they travel to Johnson City to take on the Wildcats.

NEW HARTFORD - On Tuesday September, 8, the Sherburne-Earlville varsity field hockey team traveled to New Hartford to play in a tough match-up, eventually losing 4-1.
In the first half of the game the New Hartford offense controlled the field, putting up two separate goals early in the half; sending the two teams into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half the New Hartford offense really began to take over the game, scoring an additional two goals while only allowing one. Giving the game a final score of 4-1 New Hartford. "We played a much stronger second half," said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. "We just weren't able to match their depth and speed on the turf."
New Hartford's offense finished the game with 15 shots on goal, compared to S-E's 3. Scoring the lone goal for the Marauders was Alexa Bates who was assisted by Megan Rodman. S-E is back at it again when they host their very own tournament this weekend, in the first round they play Sidney while VVS takes on Morrisville-Eaton.
