Voters have until Oct. 9 to change party affiliation

CHENANGO COUNTY – For voters who are planning to change their party affiliation, the deadline is coming fast.
According to the Chenango County Board of Elections Office, party change requests must be completed by Oct. 9, 2015. That change will then become effective
Nov. 10, which allow a voter to vote in a 2016 primary election if one is held by the party in which they’re newly registered.
According to Commissioners Carol Franklin and Mary Lou Monahan at the Board of Elections, there were numerous voters who tried to vote at September’s Republican primary, but were unable to do so as they were not registered Republicans. Many of these voters have no party affiliation, and did not realize they were registered as a “blank.”
Any voter wanting to confirm their party registration can contact the Chenango County Board of Elections at 607-337-1760 or 607-337-1761 Monday through Friday between the hours of
8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
