Busy weekend leads to Chenango County victories

Sherburne-Earlville
ROME - On Thursday, September 24 the S-E girls’ varsity swim team traveled to Rome to compete against Rome Free Academy. The Marauder women would ultimately lose by a score of 96-84.
Sherburne-Earlville won seven of the twelve events, but failed to score the necessary points to win the meet. Liz Bachman and Molly Bachman were two of the top earners for their team, winning multiple races each. Also contributing in the water was Kiana Marshall.
The young S-E team will compete again tomorrow when they host Holland Patent.

Norwich
WINDSOR - The Norwich varsity boys' soccer team traveled to Windsor Friday, September 25 to play in what would be a very close game. After all was said and done the final score was 2-1 in favor of Windsor.
After a scoreless first half, both teams would do their best to outscore the other. Windsor ended up scoring both of their goals and limiting Norwich to only one. The lone score for the Purple Tornado was from Pablo Rojas. Rojas took a long pass down the sidelines from teammate Luis Diaz, then headed the ball past the opposing goal keeper and into the net for the score. "It was really a textbook play," said Norwich coach Scottie Decker. "Pablo and Luis really did a great job."
Norwich would have another chance to score to tie it up, but the shot would ultimately skim just over the cross bar and away from the net. Norwich played a very well executed game for the young team, passing the ball well and playing great defense. Goal keeper Keegan Prime would register 16 saves on the day, all in spectacular fashion. "I couldn't be more proud of the boys," Decker said. "We've got just a few more things to work on, but I think that we've improved tremendously."
Norwich plays again this Wednesday, September 30 when they host Chenango Forks.

OTSELIC - Friday night's game ended in a 1-1 tie for Otselic Valley's boys' varsity soccer team.
Hosting DeRuyter, Otselic Valley and their opponent would score one goal apiece and then fail to score again after two overtimes. In the first half DeRuyter struck first and scored on a shot by Hunter Way. Way took a cross over the middle of the field and buried a shot past the OV defense for the game's first score.
In the second half of the game, it was Coleman O'Hara who scored his first varsity goal of the year off of a penalty kick. O'Hara lined up and took the PK and sent a shot past the DeRuyter goal keeper and in for the score.
After two overtimes both teams failed to score and as a result, the game ended in a tie.

OTSELIC - In their second game in two days on Saturday, September 26, Otselic Valley hosted Stockbridge who would go on to win 3-1.
The first goal of the game came from Stockbridge’s Thaigo Ribero in the first half. Ribero snuck a shot past the OV defense and in for his first goal of three.
To start off the second half the score was 1-0 in favor of Stockbridge. Ostelic Valley’s Tanner Costa scored his team’s lone goal of the game early on in the second half to tie it up. Unfortunately for the home team, Ribero scored another two goals that half to give Stockbridge the 3-1 victory.

GREENE - In a match Saturday, September 26 the Greene Trojans boys' varsity soccer team hosted Delhi/Davenport.
Both teams were undefeated within the league as Delhi/Davenport is leading the MAC's Division 1 and Greene is leading Division 2. Greene would win the game by a score of 4-3.
Just four minutes into the game Spencer Klumpp took a pass from Luke Day and fired a shot into the goal for the day's first goal. 46 seconds later Delhi's Quentin McKeagan answered with a goal of his own. With the score now tied 1-1 still in the first half, Day found his way around the Delhi/Davenport defense and into the net for a goal of his own. Just minutes later Delhi/Davenport would do the same and tie the game up again at 2-2.
In the second half Greene scored back to back goals from Brian Leone and Jake Cook to put the Trojans up by two. Greene survived a Delhi/
Davenport comeback by only letting in one more goal and would hang on for the victory.
Greene improved their record to 8-1 after Saturday's victory.

BAINBRIDGE - On Saturday, September 26 the B-G boys' varsity soccer team hosted Sidney in what would be a 4-0 shut out for the Bobcats.
The B-G defense had themselves a great game in which they kept their opponents away from the net for the majority of the game. On offense the Bobcats had a slow start, but would ultimately end up netting four goals.
In the first half Aidan Nolan got it started, scoring his first goal of the game. B-G wouldn't earn another goal until four minutes into the second half when Dan Norris slipped a shot by the Sidney goal keeper. Also scoring for B-G was Trevor Holoquist.
It was a solid win for the Bobcat boys on both offense and on defense, holding their opponents to only three shots all game.
Bainbridge-Guilford will play again today when they travel to Franklin.

OWEGO - This weekend Owego held their annual invitational at Pheasant Hill Country Club. Six of Norwich’s best runners competed in the meet.
Coming in first for Norwich was Ben Ericksen. Ericksen finished 19th overall and ran the 5 kilometer course in 17:58. Just behind Ericksen was Marcus Cashman who finished the course in 18:36 and placed 37 overall.

UTICA - On Friday, September 25 the Sherburne-Earlville boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Proctor Park in Utica to compete at the EJ Herma Invitational. S-E competed in the Small School division and the boys placed 26-28 teams while the girls registered as an incomplete team due to lack of numbers.
For the boys, Kenny Alrich finished in the top spot for S-E, placing 108 out of 223 runners. Alrich ran the course in 20:56. Following just behind Ulrich was Caleb Larcher who placed 116 and ran a 21:21. The S-E boys beat out Little Falls and Westmorland, both teams in the Center State Conference League with S-E.
For the girls it was S-E's Miranda Wright who finished first, placing 107 out of 185 girls and running a 25:57. Coming in behind Wright were Ashley Palmer, Emma Baker, and Sage Wescott. Palmer finished in 30:46 while Baker and Wescott finished in 30:52 and 34:50 respectfully.

SHERBURNE - Hosting Oneida on Friday, September 25, the Sherburne-Earlville field hockey team lost a close match 2-1.
Coming out strong in the first half, S-E’s Alexa Bates scored the first goal of the game with 29:14 left to go in the half. Bates was given a pass from Natalie Stewart who then found the back of the net and a goal for the Marauder women. Twenty minutes later Oneida would score their first goal of the game on a Whitney Coleman goal. The score was now tied 1-1 going into the second half.
With time running out Oneida’s Talyor Schneider found herself in scoring possession and redirected a Jillian Yardley pass into S-E’s net for the game winning goal.
Sherburne-Earlville will play again Wednesday, September 30 when they travel to Sauquoit.
