Cyclone “B” team stops Utica after down 13 early

NORWICH - The Cyclone “B” team downed the Utica Bulldogs 26-19 at home Sunday, September 27. The win places the undefeated Cyclone “B” team in the sole possession of first place in the League.

The Cyclones found themselves down 13-0 at the end of the first quarter on returns of Cyclone fumbles. Andrew Mullen opened Cyclone scoring on a 23-yard pass from Griffin Mills in the second quarter. Michael Squires reached pay dirt from five yards, and added the point after attempt on a pass to Jaden Jenkins to tie the score at 13 at halftime.

Mullen gave the Cyclones the lead in the third on a 15-yard gallop to the end zone. A Squires to Cameron Byrne pass for the PAT gave the Cyclones a 20-13 lead. The lead was short lived as the Bulldogs returned the kickoff 63 yards for a TD to move the score to 19-20.

Good yardage by Mullen set up a 4-yard TD by Squires for the 26-19 win. Mullen led the Cyclone offense with big gains on reverses and big pass plays from Griffin Mills. Cameron Byrne and Mills rushed well also for the Cyclones.

The Cyclone defense was led by Squires, Jared Houck, Izaiah Cabellaro, Ben Glanville, Mills, Mullen and Isaiah Gonzalez. A fumble recovery by Jaden Jenkins, a key interception by Gonzalez caused by a hit from Malachi Gaters, and Mason Edwards running down a Bulldog for an open field TD-saving tackle were other defensive high points in the game.
