Norwich golf captures second place at Class B tournament

APALACHIN, Ny - On Tuesday, October 6, the Norwich varsity golf team traveled to The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, Ny to compete in the Class B tournament. Norwich would tie with Susquehanna Valley for first place with an overall team score of 410, but would be bumped to second after a tie breaker.
In the Class B tournament the tie breaker works by taking the strokes from the first hole played and tallying them to form a total score. After this was done it was determined that Susquehanna Valley had a lower score than Norwich and won the tie breaker 20-21. "It was a heart breaker," said Norwich Coach David Branham. "We played really well and I'm very proud of the kids."
Finishing with the best overall score for the Purple Tornado were Ryan Johnson and Brenon Maynard, both of which shot a 77 on the day. Johnson and Maynard both earned medals and placed, tying for the third best score on the day. Also finishing in the top ten were Nate Scheer and Alex Gage. Scheer shot an 83 and finished with the seventh best score of the tournament, earning himself a medal, while Gage tallied an 85 and finished 10.
Norwich beat out five other teams in the class to place second on a day where three athletes would finish in the top ten.

SHERBURNE - Yesterday, Tuesday, October 6, the Sherburne-Earlville girls’ varsity swim team hosted West Canada and lost 52-46.
The smaller S-E team would hold their own, capturing many different events. Liz Bachman and Anna Rinaldo both captured wins for their team, both individually and in relays.
The Marauder girls swim again tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, when they host Adirondack.

GREENE- Hosting Whitney Point on Tuesday, October 6, the Greene varsity girls’ swim team won 72-61.
Their fourth win in a row, this Greene team is looking to be one of the most competitive teams in the section. For the Trojans, Nichole Flohr, Kelsye Wahlers, and Audery Platta all won multiple events for thier team, winning both individual and relay events.
Greene is now 4-2 on the season and will compete again Friday, October 9, when they are home against Oneonta.
